Vakils, through its associate company Vakils Feffer & Simons
Pvt. Ltd. (VFS) publishes books that cover a range of subjects - from mythology
and spirituality to cuisine, health and art. It is renowned for its attention
to detail and high production value.
VFS has been in the forefront of the renaissance of Indian
culture. It has demystified the gods and goddesses in the pantheon through the
very successful Introduction series. Simultaneously, it has reached out to
health-conscious Indians (publishing books on yoga, heart-disease, learning
difficulties, child-care), and cuisine-lovers (with writers such as Tarla
Dalal, Katy Dalal and Geeta Maini.)
In the recent past, VFS has also published books that deal with
management, law, poetry and biography.
Several VFS books have been national bestsellers, and some
titles have gone into as many as twenty-eight editions. Be it The Pleasures of
Vegetarian Cooking by Tarla Dalal, or Dr. R. K. Anand's Guide to Child Care or
Hinduism - An Introduction by Shakunthala Jagannathan, VFS books are known to
excite critical praise and appreciation.
Over the course of its sixty year old history, VFS has
collaborated with the University of Pennsylvania Press, publishing educational
books on Indian history and art. In fact, 'Kishangarh Paintings' has won the
Best Art Book award at an international book exhibition in Leipzig.
Besides publishing its own titles, VFS has also been involved in
producing high quality art books for reputed Indian and international
publishers such as Lalit Kala Academy, Bharat Kala Academy, The Prince of Wales
Museum, The Smithsonian Institute, The American Institute of Indian Studies and
Franco India Foundation.
